Red Ink And Stinking Rot (102)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

Trouble blowing in the wind ...
Nervous questions of feigned concern,
Carefully worded answers in response.
Lower confidence I did discern.

Senators with furrowed brows
Wondering whether or not
The financial house of cards
Can be saved from stinking rot.

Sub-prime mortgage defaults,
Red ink, credit crisis, no liquidity.
The Federal Reserve stepping in
To prevent major bankruptcy.

Regulators testifying
Working weekends on their task
Claimed they had balanced
Moral hazard with systemic risk.

Taxpayer funds on the line,
Socializing risk once more
While privatizing reward ...
A system rotten to its very core.

And on and on we go ...
Crisis momentarily averted!
'Til next time, when once again
Your interests will be subverted.

Red ink and stinking rot ...
We are heading for meltdown!
Red ink and stinking rot ...
Hubris, avarice, greed abound!

Yah, yah my taxpayer friends,
Your tax dollars down the drain!
Oh yah! Lemme tell ya' now!
Your tax dollars down the drain!
