Somethin' Keeps A Holdin' On To Me (115)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

*twangy strums from Willie Nelson's old beat-up guitar 'Trigger'*

'Got drunk ag'in last night
Just tryin' to shake free
Of somethin' that's been
A holdin' on to me.

Oh yeah, I'm tryin'
To forget, to let go,
But somethin' keeps
A holdin' on to me.

*more twangin' from Willie's guitar 'Trigger'*

Laughed with my buds,
And talked with Sue.
Still, I can't shake
The memories of you.

Oh yeah, I'm tryin'
To forget, to let go,
But somethin' just keeps
A holdin' on to me.

*more twangin' from Willie's guitar 'Trigger'*

Another bottle o' Jack
And I stumbled on home.
What a miserable feelin'
Bein' all alone.

Oh yeah, I'm tryin'
To forget, to let go,
But somethin' keeps
A holdin' on to me.

*more twangin' from Willie's guitar 'Trigger' and some piano and harmonica too*

Seems kinda crazy,
The older I get.
What's wrong with me?
Why can't I forget?

Oh yeah, I'm tryin'
To forget, to let go,
But somethin' just keeps
A holdin' on to me.

Yeah, baby, a holdin' on to me.
Yeah, baby, ya' gotta let go o' me!

*more twangin' from Willie's guitar 'Trigger'*

Gotta get a grip o' myself,
Gotta take control o' my life.
Gotta let ya' go now,
You're no longer my wife.

No, you're no longer my wife.
No longer my wife, no, no, no.

*more twangin' from Willie's guitar 'Trigger' and some piano and harmonica too*

Oh yeah, I'm tryin'
To forget, to let go,
But somethin' just keeps
A holdin' on to me.

Yeah girl, I'm tryin'
To forget, to let go,
But somethin' just keeps
A holdin' on to me.

Lots Of Time To Think (And Too Long To Remember) (111)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

Drivin' westward
Down a wet n' dusty road.
Gotta get to Lubbock
And deliver this load.

Big ol' diesel screamin',
Shiftin' to a lower gear.
Another long hill to climb
Pullin' this load of beer.

Lots of time to think,
And too long to remember.
Wish I could get my mind
On somethin' else but her.

All kinds of thoughts,
So many thoughts from the past.
They occupy my mind,
And they sure seem to last.

I sure do miss her,
And all the good times we had.
But on the otherhand,
I ain't missin' the bad.

Lots of time to think,
And too long to remember.
Wish I could get my mind
On somethin' else but her.

She Said I Do At The Altar (But Now She Says I Don't In The Bedroom) (087)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

She said "I do"
At the altar,
But now she says "I don't"
In the bedroom.

I don't understand it;
Yeah, I'm confused and frustrated.
My anger and bitterness
Cannot be overstated.

She said "I do"
At the altar,
But now she says "I don't"
In the bedroom.

I suppose she wonders
Why I go fishin' on Sundays,
Why I drink with my friends.
And why I play poker on Mondays.

She said "I do"
At the altar,
But now she says "I don't"
In the bedroom.

I suppose she wonders
Why we no longer spend time together
And why I spend
So much of my time with others.

She said "I do"
At the altar,
But now she says "I don't"
In the bedroom.

Fishin', basketball in the spring,
Golfin', baseball throughout the summer,
Trappin', football during the fall,
Huntin' and snow-mobilin' in the winter.

She said "I do"
At the altar,
But now she says "I don't"
In the bedroom.

Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry to say
She said "I do"
At the altar.
But now she just says "I don't"
In the bedroom!

A Little Band Of White Gold (082)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

I sold my wedding ring
Down at the pawn shop today.
I ain't really sure why,
But it wasn't for the pay!

Just twenty-five dollars
For a round band of white gold.
Nothing was added on
For my memories of old.

It's really kinda strange
But I can still remember
Shopping for our rings on
A cold night in December.

On a Saturday night
That was snowy and chilly,
Amidst Christmas shoppers,
The two of us so happy.

From happiness and joy
All the way to love gone cold.
Jewelry store to pawn shop,
A simple band of white gold.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah!
A little band of white gold,
Token of love received,
Taken to a pawn shop and sold!

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah!
Taken to a pawn shop and sold!

When She Walked Out (There Was Nothin' Left) (072)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

Somewhere between
Nowhere and good-bye,
Lost in a fog,
Wondering just why.

Somewhere between
Heaven and hello,
Dense low-hanging clouds,
Tossing to and fro.

Lost all alone,
Entirely bereft.
When she walked out,
There was nothin' left.

When she walked out,
There was nothin' left.

No ............

When she walked out,
There was nothin' left.

Pullin' myself
Slowly back together.
Beginning anew,
Starting all over.

No energy,
No get up and go.
Really draggin',
I'm movin' real slow.

It'll take awhile
To get over her.
Gonna take some time,
I'm pretty darned sure.

When she walked out,
There was nothin' left.

No ............

When she walked out,
There was nothin' left.

She Just Ain't Happy Anymore (070)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

She tells me I don't love her
Like she needs me to.
And complains I don't want her
The way I used to.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

She tells me I don't listen,
That I never will.
Says I'm not empathetic,
Not like Doctor Phil.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Says I don't communicate
Appropriately,
That I don't connect with her
Emotionally.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Now I take her to movies
And to football games.
I wine her and I dine her
And call her sweet names.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

When we go crappie fishin',
I bait her fish hook.
And each year on her birthday,
I will even cook.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

My buddies advised me to back off
And give her some space.
So now I drink beer with them
Down at Joe Bob's Place.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Last night down at Joe Bob's Place,
I got to thinkin'.
Somethin' popped into my head,
And my heart started sinkin'.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Maybe she just don't love me
Any doggone longer.
Maybe she's found someone else,
And it's all over!

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Guess I'll talk to her later
When I get back home.
Right now I'll just drink cold beer
With a head of foam.

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Don't know what I'm doin' wrong,
But she just ain't happy anymore!

Can't Find No Cure For My Poor Achin' Heart (065)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

I've tried Bayer aspirin
And Watkins red liniment,
But I just can't find no cure
For my poor achin' heart.

No, I can't find no cure
For my poor achin' heart.

No cardiologist
Will agree to operate,
'Cause they just can't repair
My achin' breakin' heart.

No, they just can't repair
My achin' breakin' heart.

I've tried pills and lotions,
Salves, supplements and potions,
But I can't get no relief
For my poor achin' heart.

No, I can't get no relief
For my achin' heart.

Well I've tried Budweiser,
Heineken and Miller Lite,
But I can't dull the sharp pain
In my poor achin' heart.

No, I can't dull the pain
In my poor achin' heart.

I've been examined by
Doctors Daniels and Jim Beam,
But they just can't seem to heal
My poor ol' achin' heart.

No sir, no one can heal
My poor ol' achin' heart.

Social Secur'ty won't let me
Go on disability,
'Cause my achin', breakin' heart
Just will not qualify.

No one seems to care 'bout
My achin' breakin' heart.

'Tried ev'ry kinda booze
In the well and on the shelf,
But I just can't kill the pain
In my poor breakin' heart.

No one seems to care 'bout
My achin' breakin' heart.

No siree Bobby!

No one seems to care 'bout
My achin' breakin' heart!

We Met In A Smokey Ol' Barroom (And Split Up In A Musty Ol' Courtroom) (059)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

We met in a smokey ol' barroom,
And split up in a musty ol' courtroom.

So many memories in between,
So many places we'd gone and seen.
I just don't know where all the time went,
And I still don't know what it all meant.

Yeah ...

We met in a smokey ol' barroom,
And split up in a musty ol' courtroom.

And now, my dear, all that I have left
Are the should haves and a few could haves,
The whys, the why nots, the painful truths,
And the awful, awful lonesome blues.

Yeah ...

We met in a smokey ol' barroom,
And split up in a musty ol' courtroom.

I'm just wonderin' how you're doin',
Wonderin' what you might be thinkin'.
Maybe it wasn't so terribly bad,
Those nineteen years or so that we had.

Oh yeah, lemme tell ya' ...

We met in a smokey ol' barroom,
And split up in a musty ol' courtroom.

She Blew Me Off And Then She Shot Me Down (056)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

I fell for her hard,
The prettiest girl in town.
But she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

She broke my poor heart;
I may not love again.
'Guess I'll start over,
But don't know how to begin.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

One thing is for sure,
Will be a cold day in hell
When I give my heart
To another southern belle.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down!

'Gonna move up north,
And get me a fresh start.
Headed to Vermont;
I'm gonna protect my heart.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

'Found me a cabin
Off in the Green Mountains.
It's overlookin'
Pastures, orchards, and a town.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

Village green lined with
Churches and B&Bs.
Covered wood bridges
And scenic mountain valleys.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

'Gonna be just fine,
At least I'm thinkin' I will.
Ain't goin' back to Memphis
'Cause I've had my fill.

Yeah, she blew me off,
And then she shot me down.

Ain't goin' back to Memphis
'Cause I've had my fill!

Say You'll Never Leave Me (028)

♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫♫

Say you'll never leave me;
Tell me your love is true.
Promise you'll love me forever,
Even if you can't say "I do!"

Having loved and lost before,
We both understand the stakes.
Love begins with happiness
But often ends with heartache.

So, my dear, let's take it slow;
Let's build upon our friendship.
By speaking kind and loving words,
We'll cement our relationship.

And then perhaps some fine day,
We'll trust our hearts once more.
Our broken hearts will be mended,
And our souls shall be restored.

Oh yeah!

Say you'll never leave me;
Tell me your love is true.
Promise you'll love me forever,
Even if you can't say "I do!"
